Easter in Denmark

Spending the long Easter weekend in Denmark was an ideal way to relax. There were 8 of us and we all camped, surfed, visited wineries and mainly chilled.

A few mornings were spent visiting wineries and going out for coffees. It was great to re-visit Singlefile and taste through the recent vintage. Since setting up the cellar door in 2007, they haven’t stopped winning awards for their wine and cellar door. It’s such a picturesque place and I love the fact that there’s still the geese walking around the lawns in singlefile (hence the name). I headed over to two wineries I haven’t been to before; Howard Park and Harewood on another day and tasted through their range.

Easter weekend in Denmark

The surf conditions weren’t amazing but I’m far from an elite surfer so I’ll take any opportunity to get into the water! It was just wonderful to surf with friends and explore different beaches! Such prestine clear water, stunning. We headed to Peaceful , Parry’s Beach, Ocean Beach and on the way to Albany; Muttonbird Beach.

On the last day, we headed to The Denmark Chocolate Company, West Australia’s first licensed chocolate lounge, set up by a husband and wife team where they make all the chocolate on the premises. It made me think of the film Chocolat, such beautiful chocolates laid out in the glass cabinet. All chocolate is handmade and when you arrive the staff offer you not only a tasting of some of their range but explain about how they’re made and from different cocoa beans from around the world. It was a shame we couldn’t stay and enjoy a hot chocolate or two, I’ll have to come back next time I visit!

Then we headed to Bartholomews Meadery, a family-run business just on the outskirts of Denmark.  Having always tasted wine made from grapes it was interesting and quite different to try wines made from honey. They also had a range of honey on tasting from ginger, hazelnut and vanilla and much more…… Even after a weekend of eating and drinking, I still succumbed to a scoop of chocolate and honey ice cream here, it was rather tasty. But I’ll have to go running and get back into a strict fitness regime after the holidays to compensate for my indulgence this weekend!
