Exploring the family-owned wineries and breweries in South Australia

There are so many wineries and breweries to visit in McLaren Vale. I love exploring them all and also seeing how passionate the owners are taking that step to build their business in a very competitive market.

McCarthy’s Orchard

I recently visited McCarthy’s Orchard which is just opposite Goodieson Brewery and opened beginning of 2019.

It is family owned and family-built cellar door, very impressive what they have created here. There is also soft serve ice cream for the children, animals to pat, space to run around in and wine tasting for the adults.

Goodieson

Jeff and Mary set up Goodieson Brewery where everything is brewed and bottled on the premises.

As well as the beers you can try and buy at Goodieson, I also love the fact that you can bring your own picnic to Goodieson.

Plus you could be lucky and have a personalised tasting with head brewer and owner Jeff.  See here more details on the site.

Big Shed Brewing Co

Big Shed Brewing Co is located just on the outskirts of Adelaide in a business park. The name comes from the fact the founders started brewing beer in a big shed. Guess the name stuck! Since then they have come a long way producing a wide range of interesting and different beers.

We are all big kids at heart. Growing up in the 80s I loved PacMan and the other 2D animations. Pin ball machines and joy sticks were a winner. Stepping into BigShed Brewery and seeing this brought back happy memories.

There are also colouring books to use, merchandise to buy and for the adults, games like jenga which is fun to play while tasting through the different craft beers.Big Shed sign
