Wines for a different Christmas

This year I spent Christmas in Australia. What a difference the warmer weather makes to the soul!!

However whatever the weather, it’s important to have good wine to celebrate the occasion and enjoy being with the family. I recommed you can’t go wrong with the below wines:

1. Ruinart Champagne – this is a bit pricey at $89 per bottle but as Christmas only comes once a year, I recommend splashing out on this wine as you will not be disappointed! With  hints of lemon and brioche, there is a crisp acidity with a depth of flavour to it, yum yum!  Have at the beginning of the night so you don’t forget what it tastes like!

2. Louis Roederer – a bit cheaper than the Ruinart but still delivers at this price. There is a hint of chalkyness on the nose with a hint of brioche and a refreshing acdity on the palate. Just so fresh and perfect on a warm Christmas Day!

3. Cullen Verdelho 2011 – $30 at the cellar door. On the nose aromas of peach and apricot are abundent followed by with a refreshing acidity on the palate with fresh peach and citrus flavours.

4. Wills Domaine Chardonnay 2010 – $45 cellar door. Butter, citrus and deliciousness waft from the glass. On the palate you’re not disappointed with aromas of brioche and butter with high acidty. It’s tasting great now so I would love to buy a few bottles to lay down for another 2-3 years.

5. The Ned Sauvignon Blanc 2011 – $16 – $18 at Liquor Barons. Asparagus and nettles spring from the glass with the same flavours coming through on the palate with hints of peach and floral aromas. Delicious as the afternoon was warming up!
